Community Guidelines

Keeping our weather community safe, supportive, and informed.

WeatherGeekz is a community-driven platform and is not a replacement for official NWS alerts. Always rely on the National Weather Service and local emergency authorities for life-saving decisions.

Community Standards

  • Be respectful. WeatherGeekz welcomes enthusiasts of all experience levels — from first-time watchers to seasoned chasers.
  • No harassment, hate speech, or personal attacks. Disagree about forecast models, not about people.
  • No spam, self-promotion, or unsolicited advertising. Share your content because it adds value.
  • Respect privacy. Don't share someone's location or personal details without consent.

Safety Expectations for Storm Chasers

  • Never endanger yourself or others for content. No life is worth a photo or video.
  • Follow all local laws, road rules, and emergency responder instructions during active weather.
  • Maintain situational awareness. Don't block roadways or emergency routes.
  • If you spot severe weather, report it to your local NWS office — don't just post it here.
  • New chasers: learn from experienced spotters before going out. SKYWARN training is strongly recommended.

Weather-Anxiety Support

  • Tag graphic or intense chase content so users in Weather-Anxiety Mode can avoid it.
  • The Weather-Anxiety Support group is a safe space — no graphic storm imagery there.
  • Be supportive. Many community members experience weather-related anxiety; be kind and understanding.
  • Direct those seeking help to professional resources and the NWS for official safety guidance.

Sharing Sensitive Weather Content

  • Use hazard tags (tornado, hail, flooding, damage) on posts so others can filter appropriately.
  • Avoid sharing identifiable faces of disaster victims or graphic imagery of injuries.
  • Do not share real-time tactical positions of active chasers that could compromise their safety.
  • Damage photos should be shared responsibly — context and location help, but respect those affected.
  • Misleading or fabricated reports will be removed. Always be honest about what you observed.

Information & Reporting

  • WeatherGeekz is community-driven and NOT a replacement for official NWS alerts or emergency notifications.
  • Always rely on the National Weather Service and local authorities for life-saving decisions.
  • Do not present community reports as official forecasts. Clearly label observations vs. forecasts.
  • Share sources when posting educational or forecast content.

Enforcement

  • Violations may result in content removal, warnings, or account suspension.
  • Repeated or severe violations will result in permanent removal from the community.
  • Report inappropriate content or behavior to help keep WeatherGeekz safe for everyone.

By using WeatherGeekz, you agree to follow these guidelines. They help us build a community where everyone feels welcome and safe.
